Family Therapy for Every Structure

Inclusive support for families navigating conflict, life transitions, and systemic challenges. Serving LGBTQIA+ households, military/first-responder families, polycules, and multi-generational units across Washington State & the Puget Sound

Family is Defined by Love and Connection, Not Biology or Marriage Certificates

Whether you are parents of young children, grandparents raising grandchildren, adult children navigating caring for aging parents, or a polycule expanding your family unit, Jupiter Pines Counseling honors your family’s unique identity and structure.

Family therapy isn’t about blaming one person for the “problem.” It’s about understanding how we all interact within this system and finding new ways to support each other through difficult seasons. We provide a secure, nonjudgmental space where every voice, regardless of age or role, is heard and valued.

A Collaborative, Strengths-Based Model

We use an integrative approach that blends systemic theory with practical skill-building:

Cultural Humility

No family will look like a textbook example. Questions are asked to understand your specific background, experiences, values, and shared definitions.

De-escalation & Communication

Tools can stop the cycle of conflict, improve listening skills, and create a safer emotional environment for everyone.

Unified Strategy

Whatever your family’s current challenge (e.g., substance use, co-parenting), creating a consistent, supportive plan can protect vulnerable members while empowering adults.

When Family Therapy Helps

We often recommend family therapy in these circumstances:

People walking along a waterfront with a large Ferris wheel and other amusement rides in the background.
  • Navigating Adolescent Challenges: Addressing conduct issues, substance use, or behavioral struggles in teens/young adults where parental involvement is crucial for recovery.

  • Systemic Impact: When one member's health crisis (physical or mental) or behavioral challenges are affecting the entire family dynamic, and you need a unified plan to provide support.

  • Life Transitions & Stressors: Managing major shifts like moving, divorce, remarriage, blending families, or the loss of a loved one.

  • Communication Breakdowns: When conflicts have become repetitive, communication has broken down, or skill-building is needed to resolve long-standing patterns.

  • Co-Parenting & Separation: Navigating parental separation, high-conflict divorce, or establishing healthy co-parenting boundaries that prioritize children's well-being.

  • Individual Treatment Limits: When individual therapy for one member isn't enough and the family system needs to shift to support their healing journey.

Inclusive Care for Every Family Story

We are proud to serve a diverse array of families, ensuring our approach is culturally humble and structurally affirming:

  • LGBTQIA+ & Polycule Affirming: We explicitly support LGBTQIA+ families, including same-sex parents, trans/non-binary parents, and multi-partner relationships (polycules). We understand the unique legal, social, and relational dynamics of these structures.

  • Military & First Responder Families: We offer specialized understanding for families dealing with deployment, reintegration, PTSD, and the high-stress culture of service. We know how to navigate the specific challenges of military life and first responder burnout within a family context.

  • Multi-Generational Units: From grandparents raising grandchildren to adult children supporting aging parents, we help bridge generational gaps and resolve intergenerational conflict.

  • All Ages & Structures: Whether your "family" includes step-siblings, chosen family, or is a group of adults working on relational patterns, we meet you where you are.

Why Work With Me on This?

I understand that walking into therapy as a family can feel intimidating, especially if you've been told your structure "doesn't fit" or your culture isn't understood. I am committed to being the therapist who gets it.

As a clinician with deep training in systemic and structural therapy, I don't just look at individuals; I see the web of relationships and contextual factors influence us and that hold us all together. My practice is explicitly designed for:

  • Diverse Structures: Whether you are a traditional nuclear family, a single-parent household, a blended family, an LGBTQIA+ couple with children, or a complex polycule, I bring the same level of expertise and respect to your therapy room.

  • Service Members & First Responders: Having worked with military and first responder families, I understand the unique pressures of deployment, trauma, and reintegration that can ripple through a household (for many, many years). I can speak the language of honor, service, and sacrifice without judgment.

  • Cultural Safety: I approach every family with cultural humility, recognizing that your values, traditions, and definitions of "success" are valid even if they differ from the norm.

My goal is to create a space where you don't have to explain why your family looks the way it does. You just get to focus on being and growing it together, however you want that to look.
