Ethical Framework & Commitments
Transparency, Stability, & AutonomyThe Promise
We operate under a multi-layered ethical framework drawn from five leading professional organizations: ACA, AMHCA, WPATH, ACT, and AASECT.
We’ve distilled these requirements into three core commitments that define our work together. We are dedicated to maintaining a secure and trustworthy environment for your growth.
-
Derived from ACA, AMHCA, and ACBS standards.
You Are the Pilot: We prioritize your right to self-determination above all else. You have the full authority to refuse, stop, interject, interrupt, pause, take a bathroom break, or modify any treatment technique at any moment without judgment.
No Hidden Agendas: Before we begin any specific modality (including those related to gender identity or sexuality), we ensure you fully understand the process, potential risks, and benefits.
The Right to Leave: You may terminate our work at any time. We support your decision to find a different path if it better serves your needs. We also love connecting folks with other highly-experienced professionals who might be a good fit and we are not financially compensated for those referrals; truly, we just love seeing folks getting the support that is the best fit for them.
-
Derived from ACA and AMHCA standards.
Secure Digital Sanctuary: All communication (portal, messaging, email) is HIPAA-compliant. Our client portal messaging is encrypted end-to-end. We do not share details of our work without explicit, written permission, except where the law mandates reporting.
Data Minimization: We collect only the information necessary for your care. Your clinical data is stored securely and deleted in accordance with strict timelines once services conclude.
Professional Boundaries: We maintain clear boundaries regarding dual relationships, social media, and personal contact to ensure our focus remains entirely on your healing and well-being.
-
Derived from WPATH and AASECT standards.
Evidence-Based Practice: We utilize therapies grounded in current research (e.g., salutogenic and psychodynamic approaches, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy) and adhere strictly to Professional Standards of Care (e.g., gender-affirming interventions).
Sexual Health Integration: We approach sexuality and sexual health with the same clinical rigor, non-judgmental curiosity, and integrity required by AASECT standards.
Cultural Humility: We commit to recognizing our own biases and actively working to provide a space where your unique identity, gender, sexual orientation, customs, beliefs, background, and heritage, and more, are honored and integrated into your sessions and/or treatment plan.
If any of these feel compromised at any time, please let Jessica M. Shook, LMHC know immediately by emailing supervision@jupiterpines.com
